Cascada Colorada del Fuerte

Set in a landscape worthy of a Western film, the Cascada Colorada is an easy-access excursion.

The Cascada Colorada is 18 km from Finca La Fé. Taking route 6, you'll cross the Yungas jungle, admire panoramic viewpoints, discover archaeological remains, and take in landscapes that recall the American Southwest.

Provincial Route 6

This stretch of route 6 is one of the most beautiful roads in the province of Jujuy.

The road is unpaved gravel, accessible to all vehicles — except during the rainy season, when a 4x4 or pickup truck is advisable.

Leaving Finca La Fé, you'll climb to the heights of the Yungas: first through lush vegetation and immense trees, then up to viewpoints where you can take in the whole valley and the surrounding mountains.

Abra de Los Morteros

The area is rich in prehistoric remains left by the San Francisco People, the first inhabitants of Jujuy. Their civilisation dates back to 600 BC. They left behind numerous stone and ceramic tools, including grinding stones called morteros — like the one at Abra de Los Morteros, right by the road.

Stop along the route to contemplate this ancient mortar, nestled among the trees.

This site raises many questions. Was it used to grind food, or as a mirror to observe the stars?

Cascada Colorada

You'll then reach the sign for the Cascada Colorada. Leave your vehicle and set off on a 15-minute walk to discover the waterfall.

Here the landscape changes dramatically: you enter an arid zone where only shrubs and giant cacti (cardones) grow, with mountains in the background striped in multiple colours — red, green and blue.

A further 1-hour walk among the cardones lets you take in the surroundings and, with a little luck, watch condors soaring overhead.

Near the waterfall there is a spot to enjoy a picnic in the open air, with a magnificent view of the surrounding mountains. In summer, you can swim at the base of the falls.

Access to the waterfall crosses private land. An entrance fee is charged.
